35 weeks

Now I'm just confusing myself. I'm thinking in terms of the new due date but writing for the old one.

Today is not going so great. I have a backache, a headache, and I'm chilly. Which is insane. The backache showed up yesterday and the headache has been around the last two evenings. I definitely need more sleep so hopefully that's all it is.

The rest of the week was pretty nice though. We went to Indiana so JR could help out with Randy's Eagle project. I hung out with Mom and Jen (once she did finally get there, epic airplane fail by Delta). It was a pretty productive weekend. I finished the thank you notes for the Buffalo shower (they just need to be addressed now), got a good jump on the blanket I'm knitting, added the minky dot fabric to the curtains, and made the covers for the cushions that will go on the rocking chair. I still need to add some ties to the rocking chair covers, put the little dragon I printed out on there, and make tie backs for the curtains.

We got the Rocking chair completely sanded and the first coat of paint is mostly done. I need to flip it over to get the bottom parts. I think two more cans of spray paint will get the job done. I'm not sure if we'll need to do a polyurethane over it or not though. It doesn't seem like it's quite as high of a gloss as the other furniture in the nursery and I'd like them to match if possible.

We need to: Finish the rocking chair, hang the curtains, wash everything, find somewhere to store her toys and books, put up a shelf for her items-to-be-displayed-but-not-touched, and then get all her clothes and bedding organized and put away. Here's hoping she doesn't come early 'cause that's a lot to do!

My Stats
35 pounds gained so far. I seem to be a 3 pounds a week kind of gal lately. I have surpassed JR, he now weighs less than me and this is very sad. Headache, backache, sometimes a stomach ache, and puffy feet. Good times!

Baby
18 inches long and 5 and 1/4 pounds. Her kidneys are fully developed and her liver can process some waste. Very good! Most of her basic physical development is complete and now she'll just be putting on weight. And hopefully not budge until I'm good and ready. Anytime after August 18th works for me, now, how to get that memo into my uterus... Baby already needs a blackberry.

Week 34?

I saw Dr. Kridgen yesterday. She seems very nice but I don't think she's my favorite doctor. She was very hurried and didn't seem to want to take the time to sit with me and when I did finally get her to hear me she wasn't actually listening. Nice person, not the best Dr. for me. Plus I waited for 50 minutes and that sucked.

But she did kind of drop a bomb on me. She was telling me when I should make my next appointment for. It went like this. "So we'll see you again in two weeks, well, maybe 1. I'll look at what your official due date is and figure it out. Ok. You're due August 26th, that puts you at 35 weeks. So we could go either 1 week or 2. Maybe 10 days, whatever works for you." And then she was gone.

They told us August 26th at the first ultrasound but I hadn't heard anything about that date since then. Apparently they've adopted it as my official due date but never mentioned that to me. So this makes my end date of work seem even more like not enough time. Jenine is definitely not getting me for an extra week now.

It's exhausting to be 34 weeks pregnant in the morning and 35 weeks pregnant in the afternoon. And quite stressful! Also I've heard several "I went into labor a month early" stories this week. This does not make me feel better people, just so you know.

My feet are gigantic puff balls. Even when they're not really bad and puffy they are still puffy. I just forgot what my feet really looked like before. And I knew I would which is why I took a picture at 17 weeks. Here's 17 weeks, and last night.

They totally match my Professor Klump face from my jaw surgery. But my blood pressure is fine so they're not worried about it.

So I'm going to keep listing the weeks as I have been. Since it's all just figured from my last period and due dates are crap anyway.

Mommy's Stats
32 pounds total. Still a bit more than I should have gained this week but the super huge gaining seems to have slowed down. I think it's mostly in my feet :-P I guess if she's due a week earlier that'll be 2 pounds I don't have to gain! See, there is a bright side! Bad news is JR and I are hovering right around the same weight. I'm going to start secretly feeding him pastry while he's sleeping.
The stretch marks are still growing and a few more have joined the fun. But they're all still on my hips, I haven't located any anywhere else.
Sleep is shot. I seem to get maybe 2 nights of "good" sleep a week where I only wake up 3 or 4 times. The rest of the nights I'm waking up all the time. It sucks. The e-mail suggests satin sheets and pajamas to make rolling over easier. I believe that suggestion was made by someone who has never slept in the oven that a set of satin sheets creates.

The Baby
She's at about 4 and 3/4 pounds and 18 inches. Her central nervous system and her lungs are maturing. And she's filling out with fat. Although, she seems pretty strong to me. So I think it's mostly muscle. Babies born between 34 and 37 weeks who are otherwise healthy generally have no lasting issues. So, we're good to go at any time.

I'm done with being pregnant but I'm not ready to have a baby. This is quite the predicament I've put myself in.

Shower

This has been an exhausting week. I spent all day training my replacement on Monday through Wednesday and had dive club, a priates game, and tonight is childbirth class in the evenings. Tomorrow we leave for Indiana to visit with the other Hagys.
Whew. I'm tired just typing it.

But last weekend was the shower in Buffalo. It was adorable. Unfortunately we forgot to take a camera so all I have is a picture of the cake I took with my cell phone. But the cake was pretty awesome. It had one of the dragons that we made into stickers on it. Connie made it, of course, so it tasted great too.

So the shower was at Michael's which is where we had our wedding shower. And the choices were Beef bourguignon or chicken marsala (I think). We had a green salad to start and rolls on the table. And then connie cake! Although Mom and I both agreed that the punch left a bit to be desired. I think i'd rather have had a juice box.

The favors were flower pots (wrapped in purple foil) that had "baby dragon's breath" growing in them. There was a little dragon cut out on a stick that had the plant's information on it. super cute.

And of course the invite had a dragon on it and the thank yous do as well. It's all very cute. I was impressed that they came up with so many different dragon themed things. So thank you to Mom, Aunt B, Manda, Sam, Aunt Carol, and Aunt Judy.

We got lots of fun gifts too. My mom was right, people can't help but buy adorable baby clothes. There were tons of gifts that had an outfit included with them. And they range in size too. I think all the way up to 12 months. And my cousin sent a bag of newborn sized clothes too. So Kaida's pretty set for a while.

There were a couple of doubles or near doubles of some things so now comes the hard part of deciding which to return to the store.

Things we definitely still need are the car seat, bottles, diapers, wipes, the changing table pad, and crib sheets. And I guess I should include the pump in the need list if I'm including bottles. But that can wait until we get home and see how things are going.
Of course there's other stuff that I still want and would make life easier but I don't consider them needs. Like the tub, more towels and wash cloths, maybe another swaddler, the pack n play, the grooming kit and soap set, Captain Calamari (who Jen and I saw in the store, and he's WAY bigger than I thought but still super adorable and I want him), and the thermometer.
I think I can get a lot of this on e-bay, craigslist, and at garage sales so I'm not too worried about it. And while I think all she really needs is a dress, some diapers, and a drawer to sleep in it would be nice to have the other stuff too. I guess I technically have to add the car seat to that list according to law. But it just doesn't flow with the other three things very well, Dress, diapers, drawer, car seat.

Anyway. I had a very nice shower and I think Kaida will be a very happy baby with all of these gifts to keep her content.

Week 33

This was a big week in the way of pregnancy developments.

My hands and feet have puffed up quite a bit pretty much every day. I've given up on the wedding ring for now. If I happen across a chain to wear it on I'll do that but for now it's hanging out with my engagement ring in the jewelry box.

I've also started to notice that my fingers are pretty stiff. It's more than I can't bend them because they're so puffy it's something else. I thought it was from kneading the fondant for the redneck cake last Friday but I should be over that by now. So I'll talk to the doctor about it next week. I start my two weeks between appointments now. Maybe that means they start to get interesting, rather than kind of a waste of my time.

Last night I woke myself up by snoring. That happened before when I had a cold but now I don't have an excuse except for being gigantic.

And the yucky burps. Yuck. It happens in the middle of the night when I'm not really awake, I burp and my throat and the back of my mouth get that nasty stomach acid taste in them. It even happened last night when we were eating dinner and I was sitting up. I told her, hey kid, leave some room for me in there.

And since I like to overshare, I put on some lingerie this week and when I walked into the bedroom JR laughed. Not exactly the reaction one hopes for while trying to seduce their lover. But once I saw myself in the mirror I also laughed, so I can't blame him.

Then there's work. Jenine has asked me to work almost every Friday in July. I'm only available for one of those days. And now she's asked my to work an extra week because the person they want to hire is going on vacation and won't be back.
I have several thoughts about this. One is, too bad, I gave you six months notice. One is sure why not. One is, I have no idea how I'm going to feel by then so I don't really know. Then there's JR's thought. I told you my end date, after that I can come on as a consultant. My fee is $200/hour.

Everyone keeps saying oh you'll be so bored sitting at home. I think they're forgetting how boring it is to sit at work. At least at my job. There's a ton of stuff left to do at home and we're pretty busy right up until I stop working so I don't think we'll get a lot done off of the list.
The worst case scenarios seem to be (1) I keep working, and sit here worrying about stuff that's not getting done at home, and maybe all of the things I want to do don't get done.
Or (2) I stop working and I get everything done at home and I sit around and do nothing all day being bored.
I'm going to tell you, option number 2 doesn't really seem that bad.

Mommy's stats
Seems like I gained 3 pounds this week. If my fuzzy pregnancy math is right. I'm at 29 pounds total. Yikes! That last 10 pounds crept up very quickly.
I've decided that my belly button is going to hold out. It's poking a little but I think that's as far as it's going to get.

Kaida's stats
The e-mail says she's topped 17 inches and 4 pounds (she's a pineapple this week)! Emily thought just by looking that she might be around 5 pounds. But no one really knows.
If we go by averages and the e-mail, that means that she has 3 inches and 3.6 pounds left to go.
in other developments, her bones are hardening, which is good. A spaghetti baby might be hard to take care of.
She seems a little quieter overall. I think it might be getting crowded in there. Although earlier this week the bump that is either her butt or her head made a quarter lap around my belly one way and then a quarter lap in the other direction. Maybe she's taking a tour so she knows the best exit when the time comes. (psst, baby, it's down at the bottom).

Ribs

Kaida found my ribs again yesterday. We were watching the world cup final at mom and dad's and I laid down on my right side. It felt like she was trying to climb up my ribs like a ladder. Not exactly a comfortable feeling.

Then on the ride home I was reading to JR from his book while he drove and she kept doing something to my ribs. She was grinding into them, like she was trying to use them as leverage or something. I'm not sure where she was trying to get to but she was very determined. Eventually I just leaned way the other way so that my ribs were higher and she'd have more space.

Reading out loud was kind of a challenge. I kept having to stop to catch my breath. Pretty pathetic. But I might count that as my aerobic exercise for yesterday.

Yesterday was also a very puffy day. I started with my wedding band on my left ring finger. Then I moved it to my right pinky finger. Eventually I moved it to my left pinky finger. Everything seems to be fine today though. I slept with my feet up and my hands kind of up. I didn't check my hips and butt, they're probably puffy from the blood pooling there all night ;-)

We went to Betsy's redneck party on Saturday.
The townies in Geneseo were my inspiration for the beer bottle. I even went a little wild and filled it with pop instead of water once.
I think it was just enough belly showing to be reneck without grossing people out.

Friday was cow appreciation day at Chick-fil-a.
I guess it was just a costumes kind of weekend. I'm pretty excited to make a onesie with spots for next year. Not that she'll be eating chicken, but it will still be adorable.

Week 32

We receieved our first shower gift. Katie can't come to the shower but she sent us a gift anyway! She gave us the diaper pail, the special rash cream for cloth diapers, and the diaper liners.

Baby Care basic training was pretty informative. She made breastfeeding seem less scary. We spent a long time on SIDS prevention and then on the advantages and disadvantages of formula and breastfeeding.

She showed how to put on a diaper and check if it's too loose or too big or small. She showed how to help a choking baby. And she showed how to swaddle. I was pretty excited that I've been swaddling the right way since I was 3 years old or whatever. But the AAP prefers that you don't swaddle them with a blanket unless someone is going to be awake. So at night or when I'm also napping she'll need to be swaddled in a swaddler.

She said this was just a quick intro course and that the nurses are supposed to show you the rest of what you need to know to be comfortable caring for baby before you go home. Like bathing, umbilical stump care, breastfeeding etc. Sadly she didn't go over the carseat. So we'll have to figure that one out by ourselves or ask Tara, Ryan, Lucas, or Melanie to show us.

The teacher is a lactation consultant and she'll also be our teacher for the lamaze class.

I had a doctor's appointment today. I met Dr. Stern. He wasn't very stern luckily. I asked if there's any way to determine her size and he said not really but thinks she's a good size already and he's guessing 8 pounds. I have no limits on traveling since everything is going well. He just said as it gets closer we're betting against the percentages. What percent of women deliver at 37 weeks, 38 weeks, etc. And where we might be if she decides to come. But Indiana is only two weeks away and Lee can tell us where the closest hospital is at any time. (Although he may take us to an animal hospital. Once he took us to a non-existant wal-mart so I'm a little wary)

Mom's Stats
I have been very hungry this week. As of this morning at the doctor (their scale weighs a pound heavier than ours) I have gained 26 pounds. Not too happy about that, especially since I now weigh only 3 pounds less than JR.
My belly button is kind of poking but it hasn't popped. Sometimes you can see it through my clothes and it looks almost like the outie Tim and I had when we were little.
Sleeping is a little less comfortable. I'm waking up more and usually have to get up to pee at least once. For a while there I could make it the whole night without getting up.
My left foot started swelling this weekend. It's been pretty hot. The right foot joined in on the fun yesterday. And my hands are playing too. I might have to abandon the wedding ring soon. But I've been sleeping with my feet up (quite the accomplishment considering I'm also laying on my side with a pillow between my legs and one behind my back) and they've been fine in the morning.

Kaida's Stats
The e-mail says 3.75 pounds and 16.7 inches long. Then they say "You're gaining about a pound a week and roughly half of that goes right to your baby". I don't think she's gained 2.5 pounds this week since I gained 5 but maybe she gets half a pound no matter what I do. She has toenails, fingernails and hair (hopefully!). And her big wrinkles are going away as she gets fatter.

It's getting closer!

Dreaming

I had a dream that baby number two was born about 2 months after Kaida. It's not easy to take care of a newborn and an infant, even in a dream. Luckily they were both very doll like. There were also tons of people to help. But the nursery was way too small. I kept tripping over things.

I remember carrying them stacked in one arm. I'm no expert but I don't think that's the best way transport babies.

I think I had this dream because Kris at work told me she got pregnant 8 weeks after she had her first. Holy terrifying batman!

31 Weeks

Nothing too exciting happened in the 31st week. At least not in babytown. But we've been busy so that's why this post is several days late.

We took a mini vacation. This weekend is the last weekend we have alone together until the middle of August so we decided to live it up.
Bed and Breakfast in Erie that I posted about on my livejournal. The day at Presque Isle. A little barbecue with Jen, Addy, Jamie, Tony, and Melanie. Church and then brunch at highland country club today.
So far it's been a very good weekend.

Melanie can say Kaida. It's adorable. Jamie said that the first time she said it it came out Kah-Dah! Like Ta-Da! So, that's hilarious and now I can't stop saying Kah-Dah!

Mommy's stats
Belly button is still an innie, every once in a while it seems to poke a little but it hasn't actually popped. The stretch marks are getting quite a bit worse. They're still on my hips, so no new ones, but they're darker and longer. As of the actual 31 week mark I was at about 21 pounds. I have a doctor's appointment this week as well as Baby Basic Training. I had some issues putting Melanie's baby in the car seat so we'll see if they cover important stuff like that. I forgot to mention that during week 30 I leaked some colustrum overnight. There was a spot on my shirt when I woke up. Took me a while to figure out what it was though.

Kaida's stats
Baby is over 16 inches long and weighs about 3.3 pounds. She's spending almost all her growing on getting fat. (I'm helping as much as I can :-P )
Other that that they say she's probably moving a lot, which she is but only on her schedule.

Bake faster baby, I want to meet you!
