Week 17

Week 17 was exciting and busy!

I had a doctor's appointment on Friday and got to hear the heart beat again. Sue the nurse (who is super nice and way more gentle did the appointment for me). I think Spud is still pretty wiggly because she found it for a couple seconds and then it went away. She didn't bother trying to find it again since we'd already heard it.
I mentioned my shiny new super sensitive gag reflex. I never puked in the first trimester but in the second I've gone twice now. She said Yup. Sorry.
Then I told her how my heart's been pounding. She said it could be due to stimulation of the vagus nerve but she had me go for a bloodtest in case it's my thyroid. The results were normal so I'll just be living with that too
I also had another blood test that's part of the regular 2nd trimester screening. I think this was to test for neural tube defects. But I can't remember and they took the paperwork when I had the test done.

We had Betsy and John in for their Discover scuba, and we're still hiding it from them. Betsy is my favorite April Fool's Day target so I really don't want her to find out before then. But we also needed to have JR's parents over so we could tell them. We cut it a little close but we had his parents in and out before Betsy and John got to our house.

We tried to lure his parents to our house with talk of having them take a look at some of the water damage from the snow. When that started to fail we told them we had a gift for them from when we were in Florida.
I think they were excited too, and surprised. Their Family Tree was a little more complicated but I think it came out cute.

I spent a good part of the weekend making cakes for Jen's shower. Other than the backache I had it was pretty fun to do. I think her shower came off very nicely and everyone had fun.

We also got our first baby gifts! When we were at Jen's house on Monday JR's mom and Jen and Jamie gave us a bunch of adorable baby stuff.
Burp cloths, bibs, and tiny little socks and mittens from his mom.
A hooded towel, wash cloths, bath robe, and pirate sippy cup from his sisters. Duckie themed bathroom stuff to go with the ducky bathroom!

Yeah, I'm getting very excited now. It's weird, since I don't excite but it's fun too.

In week 17 Spud is about 5 ounces and 5 inches long from head to butt. That doesn't even include the legs! It's hard to imagine that there's a five inch long baby in there. Get out a ruler. It's big! I guess the rate at which I've been adding clothes to the can't-wear-this-anymore pile should have tipped me off.
Spud's bones are hardening, is developing sweat glands, and can move all it's joints.
We will hopefully find out the sex next Wednesday.

Week 16

I guess that translates to 4 months.

Let's see. In week 16 we told my parents. And I told Jenine at work. Our plan is that I will stay home, since I barely make enough to cover day care. And we told Lisa from JR's work.

We got home from JR's conference in Florida around 4pm on Friday. So we unpacked, and packed again to head to Buffalo. When we got to my parent's house I pulled out a bag from Disney World and told them to sit together so I could give it to them. (Hee hee, it wasn't really a gift from Disney World) Inside I put the family tree we made for them. It has them and us and their grandkids. So I put "Baby Hagy Expected Arrival 9/2/2010" on it.

They're excited. My dad hung the frame on the wall (Tim and Manda saw it right away when they were over after we left). Everyone is still under strict orders to not say anything on facebook.

My mom and I went to Babies R Us on Saturday to get a gift for Claire. We made fun of all the crazy things they try to make you think you need. She signed me up for a drawing. We didn't really look at it closely so when the store called me later to tell me I won I didn't know what it was. It ended up being some organic cleaning supplies. So that's nice.

Later on Saturday we went to see Claire at Rachelle and Joe's with Betsy and John. I wore a giant hooded sweatshirt to hide my belly. When I didn't have any wine the questions started. I said before we went if they actually asked I would tell them. But they never said "Are you pregnant?"
If we can keep it a secret this will be the best April Fool's ever.

So week 16 baby. 4.5" and 3.5 ounces. They say the size of an avacado. I say mmmmm guacamole! I noticed last week when we were eating huge meals out every night I didn't get hungry in the middle of the night. But I can't make myself eat that much all the time. So when we got home I went back to the late night snack. I'm going to try to start making that a healthier snack too. Since I've been feeling better I've been eating a lot of junk.
The e-mail also says that everything is almost in its final place. Spud is looking pretty much like a baby should with a few minor changes to go.

According to my scale I've gained 3 pounds. And I think my belly looks like it. If I was looking at just what I looked like I'd say I gained more like 8-10 pounds. Maybe that's just because I don't feel a need to hold in my stomach at all anymore, since it's totally useless. We'll see what the Doctor's office says tomorrow.

My back hurts a lot toward the end of the day. The more walking or lifting I do the worse it is. And it's not a pain that stretching can fix. It's like a nerve pain, like something is pinched. I wore flats yesterday and that seemed to help. Hardly any back pain last night.
Every once in a while my heart starts to pound. Usually after I eat or if I move around after sitting still for a long time.
And then there's the pain in my abdomen. This is usually at the end of the day too and it's been around for weeks. I'm pretty sure it's just my body making room for and getting tired of holding up Spud.

Other than that though I'm doing very well.

Tonic was laying on me and purring last night. Once he left I thought I felt some vibrations really low in my belly. Not sure if it was baby and if it was I don't know if that means Spud really liked having Tonic there or really hated it and wanted him off.

Week 14 ... and 15

I'm a slacker. I didn't post about week 14 and now I can barely remember it.

I bought some maternity pants so that solved my pants problem. Some jeans at Target and some dress pants at Kohls. They have the stretchy part that comes up all the way over your belly to right under your boobs. They're super comfy and I'm pretty sure I'm never going to want to go back to regular pants.
I also bought one maternity shirt and a sweater to wear over it. Most of my tops still fit, if you look close you can see I'm getting fat but I hear that won't last forever. But I think those tops were on sale and I figure they'll get used no matter what.

So week 14 started the second trimester. I feel pretty good. Still tired but not even as hungry and definitely not as sick. The e-mail says baby is 3.5" and can suck its thumb. We thought we saw Spud sucking their thumb on the ultrasound. I yelled at him/her.

So week 15 we told Brandy and Mike. They're watching the cats while we're in Florida and we didn't feel like trying to hide all the baby related things that are hanging around the house. They are under strict instructions to not mention anything on facebook. I gave Brandy the picture to look at and Mike didn't even want to touch it, so that was pretty hilarious. I'm pretty sure you can't catch it from looking at an ultrasound.
Other than that nothing too exciting has happened. I can't feel any movement yet. I'm just sort of hanging out in the second trimester.
Baby is about 4" long and 2.5 ounces or the size of an apple. The sex could be determined this week, but it's going to be a while before we have another peek inside. I haven't gained 5 pounds which is what they say is about average. But now that I'm happy to be eating again I'm sure I'll have no trouble catching up.
