9 Month Dr and other stuff

We've been busy again!

Let's see. Last week Kaida had some gnarly cradle cap. Surprising to say the least. But it seems to be all cleared up now.

She started eating a lot more real food. For a while she didn't want to touch anything that was slimey. So I tried the third foods. But if I'm feeding it to her she wants it to be completely smooth and the third foods has chunks. So that wasn't working out well. But then she started to eat what we gave her from our meals. She really likes fried food. She definitely takes after her Daddy in that.
So she's had fried chicken, french fries, hamburger, mozzarella sticks, chicken fries, fish sticks, mac and cheese, yogurt. Definitely all little kid food. Hopefully she'll start eating other real food soon.

She had her 9 month Dr. Appointment this week.
16 pounds 9 ounces
27.5 inches
She's 30th for weight, 50th for height, 75th for head. Quite the noggin on this one.

Her ear infection is all cleared up. And Dr. Kovach said "She'll be walking by a year or I'm a fool." which was pretty funny.

And he repeatedly said that I should keep nursing her as long as I can. It seems like a pretty big change from the beginning when he kept offering us formula samples. I figure he prefers moms to breastfeed (which is why he always kept reassuring me about her growth) but didn't want to make me feel uncomfortable if we had decided to not continue.

And along the same vein, she drank formula! It's a long story so sit back and relax.
When I left her with JR she wouldn't take her bottle. Then last week I tasted the milk I was mixing into her cereal. It was spoiled. So I started testing all of the milk (thinking she wouldn't take that previous bottle because it was also spoiled). I gave up before I found unspoiled milk. So I decided that we would try formula.
She wouldn't take it out of a bottle but she did take it out of a sippy cup! So if we need to leave her with someone, formula it is. I'm done pumping.
Also, I'm a little annoyed at our freezer. Probably time for a new fridge.
I guess that wasn't too long of a story after all. :-)

Grammy came in on Monday. She brought Aunt B with her so we had a fun couple days with them. Kaida liked having new people to play with. She even let Grammy get her from her nap without screaming like she did last time. So that's good. I guess she's over that seperation anxiety thing.

She learned to blow kisses, kind of. She makes a kissy noise. It's actually a cross between sucking on her lip and kissing. We're trying to teach her to throw them with her hand but I think we're a long way off from that.

I have the cutest baby!

Things I Love Thursday: Gymboree!

Kaida loves her Gymboree Play and Learn class.

She had so much fun today. This was the first class we've been able to go to in weeks. They, understandably, don't appreciate people bringing sick kids to pass their germs around so we've been staying home while her cold and ear infection cleared up.

So this was the first class that she was also able to crawl. It really made her seem like one of the older kids (which she is).

The classes are great. She's in age group 2 and they have a similar structure every week but the content changes up a little bit. The games we play and the equipment we play on changes every week. The songs are usually the same with a few variations week to week.

She loved watching the teacher sing and play with the puppets and she had a ball interacting with the other kids (Sometimes a little too much, I had to hold her back from clawing one of the baby's eyes out).

Definitely worth it to watch her enjoying herself like that :-)

I wrote this post to participate in Things I Love Thursday. Hop on over to check out The Diaper Diaries

Storytime

We've been going to storytime at the library since it started up again. It's fun. close, quick, and free.

I'm not sure how much I should let her wander around though. I don't mind when other kids come up to us as long as they aren't going to hit or anything like that. But it seems like the other kids don't wander much at all. I'm not sure if they don't want to or if they're being kept close by their parent.

I make her sit for the actual story but for the nursery rhymes and songs I've been letting her crawl around until she starts getting up in people's faces (or grabbing other kids shoes or whatever). But I don't let her go all the way across the room.

I guess I want to be close enough to grab her if she's going to start gouging some poor baby's eyes out.

I don't know.

Busy Busy!

Watching the rain

We've been pretty busy lately.

Mother's Day weekend Kaida and I went to Buffalo for Cinco de Mayo. I think she likes being the center of attention so she had fun. She let anyone and everyone hold her.

But she was sick. A cold that had been lingering since Easter. So she didn't sleep very well. On Monday I took her to the Dr. and they found an ear infection. So she's been taking amoxicillin.

Wednesday we went to storytime. That was fun. It was much less busy than the last session we went to. It looks like over the summer they combine the older kids into one big storytime so it will probably be more busy in a month or so.

We've been skipping Gymboree because she's been sick but hopefully we'll get to go this week.

This past weekend we went to Buffalo again so I could go to brunch with Uncle Skip and the ladies. We went to the Roycroft and it was very nice.

Kaida stayed at mom and dad's house with JR. It was apparently not smooth sailing. She didn't want to eat her solid food, then she wouldn't take the bottle, and then she wouldn't go to sleep, and then she wouldn't take her next bottle. Good times. JR was a little worn out after that.

Maybe she would have taken her milk out of a sippy cup, I don't know. I've been giving her some of the milk that's leftover from her cereal in a free flowing sippy cup sometimes. We haven't had much success with the sippies you actually have to suck on though. But I didn't take a sippy cup to Buffalo so he couldn't have tried that anyway.

But I think she's happy to be home. She went right to sleep as soon as we got home Sunday night and her naps have been going very well. I think she missed her crib. Last night she woke up at midnight and it was rough but I think it might be tooth related. I eventually gave her some tylenol and she managed to go to sleep.

She's started standing up in the crib as soon as I lay her down so I just give her a kiss and leave her by herself. She'll play for a while and then she lays herself down and goes to sleep. Sometimes I have to go in and lay her down, I think she gets stuck standing and can't figure out how to get down.

Yesterday she started going over to her toy storage and pulling toys out. Right now I think it's more "I like to pull things out of other things" than "I want to play with this so I'm going to get it out." But it's still very cute.

I bought her a pony this past weekend. She really likes it. It rocks and sings and talks. She loves it when it talks to her.
