I've been lazy!

Let's see. Last week Kaida had her two month Doctor's appointment. She was...

10 pounds 5.5 ounces - 50th %
23.25 inches - 90th %
39 cm around her head - 75th %

Long and skinny, big head.

She had two shots and a vaccine that came in liquid. It was pretty awful for both of us. She was miserable and I felt bad that I couldn't do anything to help her.
I honestly have no idea which immunizations she's had now. They said everything so fast and they're all initials and combinations. And the pamphlet they gave me lists about 10 different ones but the ones she had weren't marked. I'm a bad mommy. I should know these things.

This past Sunday was Halloween. I ordered her dragon costume before the middle of the month but never got a shipping confirmation. Then I e-mailed them and they never got back to me, so I called and their voice mail box was no longer accepting any messages.
It didn't sound good so I e-mailed them to cancel my order and went out and bought fabric. I made my own version of the dragon costume. It came out cute (thank goodness) but it's very small. So unless there are other babies we know born in September or October it probably won't get used again. But if anyone wants to use it they sure can!
The company sent me a cancellation confirmation so at least we won't be billed. Oh, and making it cost, probably, $2 less than buying it and having it shipped to us. Not really a good enough cost savings to warrant all that work. Oh well.

We went to Buffalo for Tim and Amanda's party, it was fun 'cause I knew Jodi would make a big deal about her, and I love when people do that. The kids were adorable in their costumes. And of course the food was great 'cause Amanda's a fantastic hostess.
We also went to the Bulls tailgate Saturday afternoon. Uncle Skip gave us some hot cider that was delicious! About half way through my cup I started to feel a little intoxicated. It had a little Brandy in it, whoops! I'm such a light weight now.
On Sunday we hurried home (and made it by 5:30, everything's a little slower now) so we could see the trick or treaters. We dressed Kaida up and took her to see Dave and Lois, Mary and Glen, and Holly and Dave. We would have gone to see Mary, Jay, and Timothy but they're way at the other end of the street and we wanted to be at the house if people came.

Kaida's been greatly increasing the amount she sleeps. She's had several 8 hour sleeps in the last 9 days. The only part of my body that doesn't appreciate that is my boobs. Since it's becoming a more regular thing now I think I'll pump before I go to bed so it's not quite as bad when she does eventually wake up. I'm not sure my supply will be able to regulate to that big of a time off. Doesn't hurt to have an extra bottle in the freezer, but it does hurt to have it inside my breasts. :-P

While she is sleeping longer she's been fighting sleep pretty hard the last couple days. Today I got three half hour naps out of her. But then when JR got home she slept for almost two hours before it was time to go to bed. She's driving me crazy!

Last night we tried to put her in the crib but she wasn't a real big fan of that. She went to sleep but woke up a half hour later and refused to sleep for the next hour and a half. Eventually we brought her back to our room and put her in the bassinet but she was pretty wound up and had trouble sleeping even there. She didn't nap much at all yesterday so she was probably over tired.
So far tonight she's been asleep in the crib for one hour. Hopefully it will stick.

She's starting to dislike tummy time. But I've started flipping her over after her diaper changes so maybe she'll get a little more used to it.

She seems to be favoring the right side of her head a little less. She doesn't insist on having her head turned that way but she does still prefer it.

She loves to be complimented. If people tell her she's pretty she smiles at them.

She still likes her bath but hates to be taken out of the sink. Even if the sink is empty she'd rather stay in there than be laid on the towel. I have no idea why, my baby is crazy.

The E-mail last week said don't feed her with the TV on because you should be making eye contact with baby. They obviously haven't fed my baby who sleeps most of the time. And if you do look at her while she's eating she looks at you out of the corner of her eye. She seems to be saying "Um, hi, I'm eating here. Could you not stare at me like that please? K? Thanks."

2 Months!

Dear Kaida,
Today you are two months old. Right now you're sleeping in your swing because when I put you in your crib for your morning nap you only slept for 45 minutes before you woke up very hungry.
Later today you'll have a bath and we might go shopping at Target and Sam's club. Tonight the three of us will got to the Dive Club meeting because Daddy is the President and I am the secretary.
You've grown a lot in two months. When you were born you were the skinniest baby I'd ever seen. You were also the prettiest.
Now you're starting to get little fat rolls on your thighs and wrists. You still have a lot of hair, some of it is very long. You are starting to get a little bit bald on one side of your head though.
You like to take baths and you like to watch Tonic's tail as he wags it back and forth. You even tried to grab it once.
You eat about 8 times a day. Sometimes every two hours sometimes every three. When you're hungry you stick out your tongue and start to suck on your fists.
Last night you went 6 hours between feedings. You ate at 9pm and went to bed right away. You didn't wake up again until 3 am!
At night you sleep in the bassinet in our room. We try to put you to bed around 8 o'clock but sometimes your feedings don't line up with that plan.
You're wearing size 0-3 month clothes. Although the sleeper I put on you last night seems a little bit short (I think it's smaller than all the others), you are still a very long baby. When you wear a disposable diaper you are still in the newborn size but they actually fit now! They were pretty funny looking on you when you were first born.
You're not a big fan of tummy time but you don't scream when we put you there. You are showing a big preference for the right side of your head. You always want to have your right side down whether you're on your back or your tummy. But you can move your head. You will follow us as we walk across the room. You do smile at us but we have to work pretty hard to earn those smiles.
You really like the pacifier. We say that you're addicted and wonder how we're going to hold an intervention when you don't understand english yet. Usually we have to sit next to you and put it back in your mouth every time it falls out. Yesterday it was laying next to you and you managed to get it back into your mouth without my help. We're excited for you to figure out your hands so you can put it back in by yourself all the time.
Later this week we'll leave you with someone else for the first time (for more than a few minutes, you would stay with Grammom or Grammy when I went to pick up daddy at the bus stop when you were first born and they were visiting). You'll go to Aunt Jen's house while Daddy and I go to a show!
You're growing very fast and while it makes me a little sad that you're not the same tiny baby we brought home from the hospital I'm very excited to see who you'll turn into and what you'll do next!
Love,
Mommy

8 Weeks

I never got an e-mail this week. Maybe she's not supposed to have learned anything this week.

It was a busy week though!
On Friday we went to Buffalo. We left the house at 4:45 to pick up Daddy at the park n ride. Then we went to Babies r us to pick up her pictures which came out adorable. She ate there in the Mother's room (and I left her changing pad from the diaper bag on the changing table there whoops!)
Then JR and I ate at Chick-fil-a and we were on our way. We made it to State Line before she needed to eat again. We got to Grammy and Poppy's at 10:30. Almost 6 hours, but we had lots of stops.

On Saturday Grammy and Poppy held an open house so Kaida could meet her family. She met Uncle Tim, Aunt Manda, Tara, and Ryan. Uncle Lee, Aunt Carol, and Leanne. Aunt B., Kim, and Alexandra. Carlie, and Becki Chambers. Uncle Matt came too, but she's already met him.
Later that evening we went to Rachelle and Joe's for dinner. So she got to meet them and Claire, and Betsy and John. It was fun!

Kaida with Aunt B

on Sunday she had a bath in Grammy's kitchen sink. It was a lot smaller that our sink so it was pretty challenging.

Bath Time!

Later we went to the special memorial service at church since they're knocking it down. We took her picture with Grammy in front of the building. She got to meet lots of people at church too. Grammy had fun showing her off to everyone.

Church

That evening everyone came over and Uncle Tim and Aunt Manda brought Nino's! So she got to meet Aunt Sam and Lucas too.

Kaida with her cousins

On Monday we drove back home. It took a while to get home too. We left at 3:00 (I think) and stopped at Mighty Taco. After we ate, she ate there and then she needed her diaper changed. Mighty Taco doesn't have a diaper changing station :-( but we managed and got on the road.

First trip to Mighty Taco!

We had to get gas in Edinboro and then she needed to eat at the rest area before Grove City. She puked on herself so much in the car that she needed to have her clothes changed as well as her diaper. Luckily the rest area has a changing station. It was quite the adventure!

This week her arm batting seems to have definite goals. She really likes Tonic's tail. She stares at it when he's close enough and it's moving back and forth. She put forth a mighty effort but only managed to pick the arm up and heave it in the general direction of his tail. She also tried to get the bunny rattle. But once she doesn't get what she was aiming for she loses interest.

Yesterday was pretty rough. She didn't sleep from the time we got up until about 7 at night. She took a couple of 5-10 minute cat naps, and slept a little while we ate dinner but that was it. And the little bit she did sleep she would be crying while she looked asleep. Then she insisted on being held all night until bedtime at 9:30. She slept on our shoulders and would cry immediately if we tried to put her down. She wasn't picky about which one of us she was sleeping on though, so that was good. But then she slept fine overnight and seems much better today. Already had two naps.

Crazy baby!

7 weeks

9 pounds 12 ounces according to our bathroom scale today. 22 ounces in 15 days is very good. I think she's still supposed to be gaining an ounce a day. But she definitely isn't fat, so I'm not worried either way.

She's smiling a lot more and moving her head to follow us around the room.

This week we switched full time to cloth diapers. So far so good. Very few leaks, mostly just overnight. That's better than the disposables were doing. She'd wake up halfway through the night and her sleeper, her blanket, and the waterproof pad would all be wet. With the cloth there's sometimes a small wet spot on the sleeper near the leg hole. She still has super skinny legs, so I think that's the issue. But she's adorable in them, even if her bottom is gigantic sometimes!

She really likes the pacifier but she's not too good at keeping it in her mouth. I try to not give it to her at night because I'm just putting it back in her mouth every 4 minutes.

The e-mail said she should be able to hold onto things that we put in her hands and batting at things. She can hold onto stuff. I'm not sure she's intentionally batting at things but she's always hitting the toys on her toy bar.

When she lays down she always turns her head to the right, I'm afraid she's going to get a flat spot on the right side of her head. At the hospital they said turn the bassinet around and she'll turn her head toward us so she won't always be on one side. But that hasn't worked, she still prefers the right side.

All of my babies.

Pictures!

Tonic's wondering what's going on.

Wearing one of my new 'Stillers' onesies.

I'm not sure this video is going to work. But it's Kaida talking in her sleep.

6 Weeks!

Kaida had a busy day yesterday on her 6 week birthday. We went to Kiddie Kandids at Babies R us to have some pictures taken.

She was an angel the entire time and the pictures came out super cute!
Here's the share album.
We ordered a couple sheets, some of them with enhancements like tinting and text. The photographer did all sorts of collages and really cute enhancements so I, of course, wanted them all. But I made JR come back with me to look at them all and he reined me in.

Here are the cutest ones:

Now we have a Portrait Club card so I can go anytime for a free sitting and get a free 8x10. There are other deals too, depending on the day of the week.

She had her first bath this week, as previously posted. We did it in the baby tub inside the big tub. But since then I did it in the baby tub on the kitchen counter and most recently in the kitchen sink. I think the sink is the way to go. It's short enough that she can't really slip under the water while she's on the sling. So I just have to keep a hand on her rather than actually holding her up. But she really likes it!

I had my 6 weeks post partum Dr.s appointment. Everything looks good.
So far I've been screened on the edinburgh scale for post partum depression twice and asked the questions two other times. It's getting so I could ask them the questions.

This week Kaida's cousin Addy came over on Tuesday while her mom was at work. It will be a while before they can play together, but it was a super busy day for me!

She's been pretty good with sleeping. Last night was really good. She woke up a lot to eat but she went right to sleep at bedtime and after each feeding as well. If there's going to be a problem it's that she won't go to sleep when we put her down. Those are the nights when I start a feeding at 10:30 and then she nurses 3 more times before she goes to sleep so I have no idea what time I should be counting from for her next feeding. She's usually within the 6 hours though so it's ok.

The e-mail said she should be smiling when she sees us. Which she sometimes does. But she is pretty much never not seeing me.
