Colin's 12 month portraits

Colin's 12 month portraits.
He wore his robot outfit and robot party hat, and an adorable elephant outfit I found at Target.

Itty Bitty Updates

The other day when we were in the car Kaida told me that she was a doctor.  I congratulated her and commented on all the hard work she must have put in to become a doctor.  She told me she made herself better.  When I looked over my shoulder she had a bandaid on her face.
Then I mentioned how being able to self-diagnose must save a lot of money on Dr. bills.  Which is good 'cause she can pay back her school loans.
She said "Yes, and my Doctor Loans!"
There will be lots of those, Dr. Kaida Hagy

2/6/13
On the way to story time this morning Kaida said "I like the liberry Mommy, is my favorite berry."

Yesterday I was watching a video on the computer when Kaida asked for something.  I told her she could have whatever she wanted as soon as I was done.  When the video ended she said "Are you done Mommy?"  I said "Yes, what is it you wanted?" "Milk."
I try to limit her milk because if she drinks too much she won't eat so I was really doubtful that I had agreed to get her milk.  But I couldn't remember what she asked for originally.  So, she got some milk!

At the library Colin was making himself comfortable on a bunch of coats people had piled on the floor.  Then the next time I looked he was standing behind a woman in a chair trying to snuggle the back of her sweater.  He doesn't know those personal space rules yet.

Kaida: Can I dress up like a pirate?
Me: You sure can.
Kaida: Arrh, I'm stealing everything. Even babies!
(it's less horrifying when you realize she's talking about her blankie)

We got Kaida's preschool confirmation letter today.  When I told her she started applauding herself and saying "Yay! I got into preschool!"

She also asked to watch Bil-bo Bade-ins (Bilbo Baggins).  It took me a couple times to figure out what she was saying because I had no idea that she knew his name.

2/12/13
Today she started saying "eventually".  She's not always using it right but it's pretty adorable.  She knows that it's a unit of time but thinks it's a lot shorter than most people intend it to be.
We were arguing over whether she should go potty before her nap and what diaper she would wear.  She wanted to wear the orange cloth one so I told her she needed to go potty first.  She (eventually) agreed with me and said "I will put on this diaper eventually."  And I was all "Yeah, in 45 seconds, after you go potty."

She is constantly asking us what things are named.
What's the car's name mommy?  What's that boy's name mommy?  What are the cloud's names mommy?
We've been trying to get her to name things for a long time, like the toy cars or the dollies (she named Dahlia but that was before she could talk and I think she was trying to say dolly) but she won't do it.
Well, she named her robot at Colin's first first birthday party.  She said "He is a robot and I will call him Pokey!"
When I made the robot center pieces she said "I will call them Pokey!"
and at the second birthday party she made and named another robot.  "I will call him Pokey!"
I think it's hilarious that she always says the "I will call him.." part.  It's never, "His name is" or "I will name him"
Now if we could get her to come up with another name to use.

Kaida's big girl crib

The other day we bought a bed rail for the side of Kaida's crib.  She was very excited about it.  She wanted to help put it on and she wanted to play in the crib once it was all set up.  So we let her play for a little while during Colin's bath and then went downstairs to get all ready for bed.

Testing it out.

There's a tiny space for her to squeeze out on the end.

Of course since it was late she wanted to take a bath too (that's the only time she ever wants to take a bath).  This is probably when things started going down hill.  We told her no, there was no time, and the water was all gone.  Commence fit.

Eventually we got her into her pajamas and she seemed excited again about sleeping in her big girl crib.  It didn't last long though.  She climbed out and started knocking on the door.  She said she wasn't sleepy, she was having trouble getting to sleep.  Then she asked if we could put the side of the crib back on.  It was all very sad.

She got out another time.  Then the third time she fell as she was getting out.  By then it was quite late and she was very tired.  So JR laid down the law and told her she couldn't get out anymore and she eventually fell asleep.

Today she went down pretty well for her nap.  She had to go potty again right after I had just taken her but she actually peed so I'm not even sure that had anything to do with the bed.  She fell asleep pretty quickly and slept the normal length of time.  I was in the basement when she woke up so it took me a while to get up there.  She was playing with some toys when I got up there, so that's good.  I'll have to find all the quiet toys and take them up there for those early morning wake ups.

It didn't take Gin long to check this new situation out.

Hopefully bed time tonight goes as well as nap time did.

Colin's 12 month Check Up

Colin's 12 month check up went well.  He weighs 20 pounds 8 ounces and is 29.5 inches tall.  He was around the 50th percentile for both of those and closer to 75th for his head.  I guess his noggin is catching up to his sister's.

He has 7 teeth and says a bunch of words.  Maybe not quite as many as Kaida said at this age, but close.
His favorites are:
Wow!
Oh Wow!
Uh-oh
Dat (that)
Wah-dat (what's that?)
No-no (it's possible he may think that's his name...)
Ahbahkadah (Abracadabra)
Ay-dah (Kaida)
Duck
Mama
Dada.

The other day he said "Uh-oh!  What's that?  Oh, wow!"  It was kind of hilarious.  He was just talking to himself making no sense until that popped out.  I guess it's like a million monkeys at typewriters, right?

So Dr. Kovatch was impressed that he says that much, since he's a boy.  I guess he wasn't taking into account the obvious fact that my children are brilliant.  :-P

So he's good now until 15 months.
