Well that was traumatic

That was pretty traumatic for everyone involved.

I called the Dr. today because Kaida's cough hasn't gone away. It went like this.

She got a cold around April 20th. We went to the Dr. in the early-middle of May since it hadn't gone away. She found an ear infection and prescribed Amoxicillin. By the end of May she seemed better. But the cough that had gone away came back within a week.
She saw the Dr. for her well visit but he said her lungs were clear and I figured this was just a new cold.
Maybe a week or so later I called the Dr. They said keep an eye on it, you probably don't need to bring her in. So I did keep an eye on it. It didn't go away.
Two weeks ago we went in again and saw a different Dr. She saw some redness in her ears but said her lungs were clear and prescribed amoxicillin again. It definitely did not work.
So I called again today. The cough has been getting worse, not better so I just wanted them to tell me what was wrong. Dr. Kovach had an appointment today so we went to see him.
He seemed way more thorough than the other Doctors. But apparently way more terrifying, she started crying as soon as he came near her.
He had me unsnap her outfit so he could put the stethoscope against her skin. Then he checked her eyes, her throat, her nose, and her ears. The other dr.s only checked her ears.
He had to use the ear digger to get a bunch of wax out, then her one ear started bleeding. And she has narrow ear canals so even getting the ear seer in is hard work.
I had to lay on her for a very long time while he did all this. She was not a happy camper. She screamed so hard she burst some tiny blood vessels around her eyes. Then when he was trying to tell me about the medicine she kept screaming and trying to get further away from him, which is hard to do when I'm holding her.

She has acute sinusitis. So, it's a sinus thing and not a lung thing. He prescribed a medicine for recurrent ear infections. He also suggested benadryl at night to help dry things up (but of course we forgot to buy that when we were at the store).

I'm glad that the Dr. who figured it out is her Dr. and that he took the time to really look at her and figure out what was wrong. I sometimes feel like he's too busy bouncing around to hear me but he kept asking questions until he had the timeline figured out. And then he really looked at her to see what her symptoms were.
Hopefully this will help her get better. I feel bad that she's been sick for so long.

He thanked me twice for holding her while he checked everything. But that's just what mommies do, right? Lay on babies so they can't squirm around? Although I'll tell ya, I'm exhausted now too. Traumatic. For. Everyone.

Videos!

We had Beanie Weenies for dinner last night. It was messy, but apparently worth applause.

And here she is walking with her toy. She's been doing this for a while but she always wanted one of us to be holding her under her arms. Now she's confident enough to do it without us!

Big Advancements

Dada seems to have fallen by the wayside a bit in favor of Mama. We also have baba and what sometimes sounds like papa. We think that might actually be puff. 'Cause she says it in her high chair a lot. Not too far off from Pop Pop and Poppy though!

She waved last weekend. We went to a garage sale and the homeowner came up to us and started talking and Kaida just started waving at her. Now she'll wave sometimes but rarely when you are actually encouraging her to do so.

And she's been clapping for a while but it was very halfhearted. Like, Oh, my hands happened to meet in front of me, I guess I'll mush them together a few more times. A couple days ago she started clapping with intent. And now it actually makes a little bit of noise too!
I got applause after I changed her diaper today, it's nice to feel appreciated but she clapped for herself after she crawled halfway across the room too. So I think it's more of a signal that we did something, not that we necessarily did it well.

She crawled off the edge of our bed the other day. I knew it was coming 'cause she kept trying to explore the edges. And I had caught her from falling off the other side about 2 minutes earlier. She cried for a minute or two but seemed fine. She didn't want me to be too far away for about an hour after that but now she's back to not caring where I am too much.

She's had a cough again for a while. Tuesday night she freaked out twice and couldn't go back to sleep by herself (oh yeah, we night weaned her) and she had a bit of a fever so we went to the doctor on Wednesday. She said that it wasn't an ear infection yet but that it was red so we started the amoxicillin again. She doesn't pull on her ears when they hurt her but she wouldn't let me touch that side of her head. She would pull my hand away. So I guess that will be how we know in the future.

Here are some of her 9 month portraits.

Indiana

We went to Indiana for Memorial Day weekend. It was fun but we're not doing it again. Well, we'll go to Indiana but we won't drive it all in one day. And since that means adding the expense of a hotel we may even fly.

She wasn't awful it just takes so much longer. She needs to be fed frequently and can't say "Oh, I'm not hungry yet we can drive for another hour" And every time we stop we change her diaper. And we'll stop to eat lunch and get gas and then get back on the road and remember that she needs to nurse too.

And at the end of the trip she's had enough and isn't going to sleep anymore so she just screams. Even if someone is back there with her.

It's for sanity and comfort.

Anyhow
Saturday we just chilled around the house. We made Birthday wreaths, they're very cute.

Sunday we went to Holiday world in Santa Claus. We spent all day in the waterpark. Kaida really seemed to like it. She wasn't a fan of being splashed but she did like the water. She got to wear her bathing suit for the first time. It's adorable. I'll have to see about getting some pictures. She didn't like the hats we made her wear but I think they did their jobs in keeping the sun off her face. We reapplied her sunblock a couple times but we probably should have done it once more. her bathing suit is a UPF 50 short sleeve top so, luckily, only her forearms got pink.

We found some chairs under an awning so that helped a lot and grandmom taught her to drink from a straw so she had water throughout the day. It was 93 degrees out.

JR and I took her to the kiddie area that had slides. She went down some slides with JR a couple times and then I took her on one. Unfortunately my naked legs seem to slide a lot faster than JR's trunks so we took a tumble at the bottom. She got splashed which made her scream and I skinned my knees but I didn't scream.

In other news:
She's been saying "Hi!" for a long time. It almost comes out sounding like a sigh. It has all the inflection and sound of Hi she just doesn't do the work to make it a word.
She started babbling a lot more this week and she said Dada. Now she says dadada all the time. She sounds like a VW commercial. She also immitates us a lot more. I swear I heard Kitty, mom, and Kaida. And tonight while JR was putting her to bed she said Hi Dada.
