Talking and diapers and randomness

Blogger did some updates but it seems like there are a few bugs so if this looks weird that's probably why.

Kaida is picking up new words super fast. It's pretty exciting! I like the words that I have no idea where she picked them up the best. Like "turn". Grammy's Easter Bunny delivered her basket with a top in it. And I'm not even sure I said "turn" in relation to the top when we were playing with it. But she kept "asking" me to turn it. I say asking because she usually demands. Even when she says "please" to get you to do something it sounds like a demand.
Today she saw her dinosaur tent in the closet and kept saying tent over and over again until I got it out for her. When I did get it out we went inside to play but she kept asking for the baby. So I went and got him even though I thought she would push him away when I tried to bring him in since "Baby" can mean Colin, Blankie, or any baby doll. But she was totally cool with him being in there.
Then she tried to clip his toenails through his socks. Luckily the clippers were closed and I was able to smuggle them away from her after that.

He started sleeping in the nursery yesterday. He did really well the first night. It took him a while to go down, I had to keep going back up to put the pacifier in, but he slept for 8 hours before he woke up to eat, and then another 4 before he was up for the day. He's not napping very well in there yet, but we're working on it. Hopefully he continues on like this, but I know better than to expect it after Kaida!

Colin's Baptism outfit arrived. It's cute, and the hat is super cute. We'll see if he'll wear it on Sunday!

We went to the Great Cloth Diaper Change this weekend. We were trying to break the Guiness world record of 5026 babies changed into cloth diapers at the same time. Pittsburgh contributed 64 so we'll have to wait to see what the final count is for the rest of the world.

Kaida's Diaper is changed!

64 babies all changed!

Rough Day

Kaida had a rough day. She must have known today would be bad. She woke up but then put Baby over her face and went back to sleep.

It actually started out ok, after this picture she woke up in a pretty good mood. She had some breakfast and got dressed.

Then she fell down the stairs.

I think she probably only fell down half of them. I'm not sure though 'cause I was in the shower. I've been leaving them both downstairs while I run up to take a shower for a couple days now. I make sure Kaida is pretty engrossed in a show and wait until Colin is asleep and "safe" in the swing (better than on the floor where she can sit on his head).
I close the gate but leave it unlocked. The theory being that she's pretty good on the stairs and if she wants to go up but the gate is locked she's probably going to climb up the outside and try to do some acrobatics off the top of the play kitchen.
Well today she obviously discovered that the gate was open and came part way up the stairs. I think she must have stopped to play with the flashlight that was on top of the play kitchen when she fell.
She was laying at the bottom of the stairs and crying but got over it in about a minute and climbed right back up. There must have really been something she wanted up there.
She seemed uninjured except for having the bejeezus scared out of her.

Then she got upstairs and went straight to the bathroom 'cause the water was still running and at nearly 20 months you can't pass up that opportunity. Except that, when I had dashed out of the shower, I left a puddle on the floor. So she was two steps into the bathroom when she slipped in some water and fell. That actually seemed to upset her more than falling down the stairs. But I sat her on the toilet and rather than destroying the entire bathroom like she normally does she just ate a sheet or two of toilet paper (she'll usually down a sheet or two while she's destroying the bathroom anyway).

Once we got downstairs I had to feed Colin and she found baby blankie and ended up laying on the floor with him. I told her not to fall asleep but she did and I took her upstairs to finish her nap in her crib.

She woke up from the nap completely miserable and with a poop in her diaper that made her diaper rash worse. That was a horrific diaper change.

After that we had a pretty chill afternoon. She didn't choke on her lunch, or fall off the couch or anything.

Then we went to get JR. We got our shoes on and Colin packed up and we were out the door. I let her bring the Elmo and Cookie figures that she got yesterday with a gift card from her birthday. As she was climbing down the step cookie fell out of her hand. Once she was done climbing down she went to get him and I'm not sure if she stepped forward after she picked him up or if I didn't realize she was so close but I let the door go and it smacked her right in the head. She went flying and landed on her back. It's a very heavy door, so that one left a mark.

Once we got home she only face planted one time after dinner, and it was on the carpet so that's a relief. And she's safe from me in her crib now.

So she had a bump and bruise on her right temple, a very small bruise on her back, and a scratch on her ribs (we're not sure which incident caused that one). There was a red mark on her back at bathtime but we're also not sure if that's just from her diaper or if it's a carpet burn.

hopefully tomorrow goes better.

Disney World

We went to Disney World this week!

Kristine and Anthony got married so we went down to help celebrate.

Disclaimer: Colin did actually go with us but he mostly just sat in the stroller, or his car seat, or the pack carrier. So everytime I describe what Kaida did just imagine that it also says "And Colin sat/slept in the stroller/car seat/pack carrier."

Wednesday we flew out of Pittsburgh. Instead of leaving the car in the extended lot we parked at The Parking Spot and took their shuttle to the airport. It really helped reduce the stress of spending a half hour looking for a parking spot. Plus I couldn't imagine trying to transport 2 kids, 3 suitcases, and two carry-ons from the car to the shuttle stop at the airport.
We flew AirTran and somehow things got really confused. They had us as 3 ticketed passengers with two infants on laps. So Kaida was holding Kaida on her own lap. But you can't have two lap infants in one set of seats because there is only one extra oxygen mask per set. So they split us up for each leg of the trip. And couldn't (wouldn't?) fix it. We ended up asking people near us to re-arrange so we could sit together. Once we finally got someone to actually understand that we were 3 ticketed passengers with one lap infant he was able to fix it for our return trip.
We laid over in Atlanta, Kaida took a nap in the stroller, we had lunch. People looked at us weird. Especially when one of us was pushing the stroller and the other was carrying Kaida. I think they noticed the double stroller and then Kaida and were looking for the third baby.
Kaida was pretty good for most of the flight. She wasn't a huge fan of the seatbelt but once JR explained the seatbelt light she was a little more compliant. Unfortunately the plane noise was too loud for us to hear the tablet with our headphones on so the movies we had planned to entertain her with were a bust. Luckily we had toys and books.
They both wore disposable diapers the whole time. Kaida's leaked a lot on the way down. We gave her a ton of juice but I am still very surprised by how many outfits she went through. She was on her third outfit and we were headed to the hotel when she threw up all over herself. So I recycled a shirt from earlier in the day and she went to dinner pantless (since our luggage took a little longer to get to the hotel than we did). She had a cloth diaper cover on (I brought those for Colin to help contain any diaper blow outs but after she leaked so much I put one on her too), still not real classy.
We had adjoining rooms with JR's parents. We met them at the airport and drove to the hotel together. We stayed at the All Star Movies resort. Kaida was really good at finding all the Mickey Mouses or "Mee-mou". She even found one when she was in the tub. It was a sticker stuck on the tank of the toilet so only she could see it.
Once we got unpacked we put Kaida to bed but it was still pretty late for her.

Thursday we went to Animal Kingdom in the morning. We had to wake Kaida up, which is always a treat. We saw the Nemo show and the Lion King show. She road a dinosaur ride that's like Dumbo and played in a playground area. She also got to meet Goofy (whom she calls Doopy, it's adorable). We had lunch at the park but did just half a day. Then we headed back to the hotel. Kaida took a nap but we had to wake her up again to get ready to head over to the rehearsal dinner. Uncle Steve's brother couldn't make it so JR, Kaida, Colin, and I got to go in his place.
We met at Shades of Green and took a bus to Epcot. We were dropped off backstage at the GM test track. Dinner was in a banquet area above the ride and was really good. Kaida ran and ran and ran. JR, his parents, and I traded off following her around. She loved it. After dinner we left the two of them with his parents and, everyone who wanted to, got to cut in line to ride the Test Track. It was pretty cool. We went on with Pop Pop (Pop) and Aunt Joyce. The best part is the outside part where you're going 60 with the wind blowing in your face.
After everyone had done the test track we were escorted to the UK where we got to watch the fireworks in a private area.
Aunt Joyce took Kaida for a while and when they came back she had a spinner that lights up. It was quite the hit!
It was all very cool and we took the bus back to Shades of Green.
So Kaida was pretty late to bed again.

Friday we hung out around the hotel for the first part of the day. We had a late breakfast and were getting ready to go to the pool when Kaida melted down. She wasn't a fan of the bathing suit we were trying to put on her. So we stayed in and she had a nap while Grandmom and Pop Pop went down to the pool. When she woke up we went to the pool for a while. She really liked it. and She LOVED playing with Pop Pop.
After the pool JR went to get us lunch and we headed back to the room. We got ready for the wedding and then headed over to Shades of Green. The wedding was outside in the Gazebo. Kaida was quiet enough for about half of the ceremony but then JR had to take her for a walk.
Grandmom and Aunt Judy brought all sorts of toys so that helped a little. Mostly she just wanted to run around and do whatever was opposite of what you were telling her to do.
About 10 minutes into the reception she found the dance floor. And that's where she spent most of the evening (even before the dancing started). She stopped for about 5 minutes to shovel some mac and cheese into her face.
It wasn't long before she started sucking on her fingers. We could tell she was exhausted so that must be something she does when she's tired.
She danced with JR and me, Pop Pop and Grandmom, Kristine, and almost everyone else. She did have one favorite girl she kept going back to though. It's kind of scary how chummy she got with complete strangers in the course of an hour or two.
We left around 9:30 ish in the hopes that Kaida would get some sleep.

On Saturday she still woke up at 8 though. We were thinking about going to the Magic Kingdom but decided Kaida probably wasn't up for it. So JR's parents went to meet Aunt Judy etc. and Pop Pop (Pop). We had a late breakfast and put her down for a nap. We tried to go to lunch but she had a meltdown before we could even get out the door so JR went to get us something and we had a bed picnic instead.
Once she was fed she was alright with getting ready to go to the pool. She played with JR for a while and Colin even went in (but of course we forgot the camera).
After we got dressed again she played on the playground with JR but after two face plants they came back to the room. We got a pizza from the dining room and had another bed picnic. Then we went to the Disney Store. She went all through the store taking things off the shelves, carrying them 5 to 10 feet, and then dropping them on the floor. We ended up getting her a Minnie Mouse ears hat.
She had her bath and stayed up just long enough to say goodnight to Grandmom and Pop Pop when they got back.
Once she was asleep we packed up what we could and then left the kids in Grandmom's care and went on a mini date. We went for ice cream and then to the Disney Store again. We got Colin a onesie that says Future Prince Charming, it's pretty cute.

Sunday we got up really early and she ended up waking up early too. We got all packed up and then checked in and dropped off our luggage. Then we had a quick breakfast. We were hoping to get a picture with the character that was coming in the morning but our bus to the airport was leaving right at the same time. So we saw Goofy in his Easter finest from a distance.
At the airport she just wanted to run again but that wasn't working out real well. So there were a few fits in the airport, then again on the plane when she had to be belted in. But she fell asleep as the plane was taking off and slept about an hour and a half. Once we got off the plane one woman commented on how good the kids were. I wanted to say "Only because it's hard to be bad when you're asleep."

And this whole trip reminded me of the poem There was a little girl by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

There was a little girl,
Who had a little curl,
Right in the middle of her forehead.
When she was good,
She was very good indeed,
But when she was bad she was horrid.

My little girl's curl is on the back of her head but everything else applies.

Colin's 2 Month

Colin had his two month Dr. appointment this morning.

He weighed in at 13 pounds 1.5 ounces, 23 inches long, and 40cm head circumference.
So that is 74th percentile for weight, 43rd percentile for height, and 39th percentile for his head.

Dr. Kovatch said not to worry about the little dots since they seem to come and go.
He also said that he can wear sunblock this weekend in Florida and go in the pool too.

He had his vaccines and everything seems fine.

I told Kaida that we had to take Colin to the Dr. a bunch of times over the last couple days. I explained that he wasn't going to do anything to her and that he just needed to look at Colin. I brought juice for her and we have emergency M&Ms in the diaper bag. So I started the M&Ms right away and right when Dr. Kovatch came in I gave her the juice. And she was fine. She just sat there drinking the juice and clutching the third M&M I had given her.
Until Dr. Kovatch asked her if she liked being a big sister. Instant screaming and tears. It was sort of hilarious, like maybe she thought that since he wasn't talking to her he couldn't see her?
After she'd been screaming a while he said "I guess I never should have addressed her." I guess not, but who would have known? Since she was calm he was probably trying to take the opportunity to show that he's not always there to poke her and be scary.
Next time he should bring M&Ms. They were a real hit.
