She's crawling!

She started doing the cross crawl this morning. I think she's just been testing out all the different options for getting around the last couple days. But when she landed on this one it stuck. Now she's really covering a lot of ground.

She crawled over to the stairs and started tugging on my coat. Then she started playing with the cat (although I'm not sure Gin knew they were playing) I think Kaida is saying "Come here kitty, I'm gonna get you!"

Time for Pictures!

The pictures in the first group are from Addy's birthday party.

The second group is from Saturday night. She was being so sweet and laying her head down on Poppy's shoulder so I got the camera and tried to get a picture. Of course this is the outcome. At least we got one where both of their faces are in it.

These are from when she could only go backwards. She got herself stuck under the play table and couldn't sit up, go backward any further, or go forward. I had to save her this time.

And then we have Easter.
After she found her Easter baskets

I really like this one because it looks like she's explaining her new toy to Grandmom and Uncle Randy.

Pretty as a princess in her Easter Dress.

Playing, she gets herself into lots of places for someone who can't technically crawl yet.

Forward Movement!

We had some definite deliberate forward movement today. It's not your standard cross crawl but it gets her to where she needs to go... sometimes.

It's funny because for a while she seemed to think that she needed to have her one foot flat on the floor in order to go. She would go: hand, hand, foot, drag the knee.

Another time we were in the kitchen and she was on all fours with her butt way up in the air. And just as I was saying "Please be careful" her tiny T-Rex arms gave out and she face planted into the floor.

After a little while of practicing it has started to look more like hand, hand, knee, knee. With just enough less backward movement that she makes real progress foward.

Plus she's almost crusing. She hasn't gone more than a foot or two but it won't be long before she figures it out.

We are going to have a mobile baby very soon and I'm already tired.

Looking adorable in shorts and a onesie!

High Chair

Last week I took the straps off of the high chair to clean them. She thinks it's fun to chew on them when she has a mouthful of food so they get pretty gross. It wasn't until JR was putting them back on the chair that we realized that one of the snaps that holds the strap to the chair had broken when I took it off. It stayed snapped together and came completely off of the one side of the strap.

I got out the booklet that came with the chair (I'm glad I kept all that stuff!) so I could call them and raise some hell.
But they were closed because of Good Friday. Today I gathered everything back up again and made the call.
They tried to deter me by telling me it would be a 25 minute wait before I could speak to a representative. But I had my book, my gummy worms, and a sleeping baby. I was in it for the long haul and they were not going to win that easily.

I practiced my lines in my head. Calm but firm and not taking no for an answer. there was no way they were going to wiggle out of selling a defective product.

When I did finally talk to a representative I didn't even get to raise a little bit of hell. She just took our address and is sending us new straps.

She must have known I was ready to go a full 10 rounds so she forfeited early. Yeah, that's it.

Yuck

Kaida seems to be feeling a little yucky. She's had a bunch of gross poops and now she has a screaming diaper rash. That's the kind of diaper rash that makes you scream non stop for a half hour at 2:30am and at 5:30 am.

We thought maybe we gave her something that didn't agree with her tummy but of everything we give her to try she usually barely tastes it and very rarely actually swallows it. so that doesn't seem to be a likely theory. Or if that is the case it's compounded by something else as well.

I guess I've decided that it's this cold she has. Runny nose, congestion. An upset stomach seems like it would fit in there pretty well.

She's wearing disposable diapers again so I can coat her butt in zinc oxide. It's very sad that now she starts crying when she hears me opening the disposable wipes. She knows what's coming and that it's going to hurt.

Poor baby.

Daddy Rocking the Baby

Here's a video of Daddy rocking the sweet little baby.

Milestones all over the place

On Friday I put her in a bin and she pulled herself up to standing. She did it again today when I put her in a laundry basket and then again a bunch of times while we were at Aunt Jen's house.

And while we were there Aunt Jen found tooth number 2. They're so cute and tiny (except when she bites me). Number two is right next to number one. So the front bottom teeth.

Friday night was awful, she seemed like she was getting sick but nothing has developed. So I guess we're going to blame the teeth.
She woke up at 10. At midnight I went to bed and JR stayed up with her until 2 she dozed a bit while he was with her. Then I got back up with her until 5:30, she dozed a little bit more in the swing and we both fell asleep while I was nursing her.
Then I managed to get her into the crib, so everyone in the house was asleep until 6:30. She woke up and I fed her and she fell back to sleep for a little while. JR got up with her a little after 7 and then at 9 I woke up and nursed her and held her while she took her morning nap.
We tried to give her acetaminophen Friday night sometime between 10 and 12 but she spit most of it out. When we did finally get some to stay inside of her in the morning she started to feel a lot better.
I'm not looking forward to repeating this 18 more times.

Getting up to sitting!

We've been working on this one for a while. She figured out what to do with her arms and legs but she couldn't get up on to her knees by herself. They kept slipping out from under her.
She had her pants off tonight and voila! She did it!

Kaidilocks and the Three Chairs

We went to Lowe's today (we have a Lowes now!) to get some blinds (shades? They seem like a hybrid).

Unfortunately the person who knows how to use the cutting machine was in a meeting so we had a half hour to kill. We found the patio furniture and just hung out. She liked the big swings but she really loved the tiny rocking chair.

As soon as I set her on it she started rocking it herself.

After that we had to try out all the tiny chairs.

She really wanted to chew on the tag on this chair.

I think we need to find her a tiny chair of her own.

The other blog

I have another blog that's not baby stuff. But the post I just wrote is a bit of a cross over.

Gymboree!

Kaida and I went to Gymboree Play and Music today.
There was a coupon for a free class that JR found so we decided to check it out. There's one in Wexford and that's not too far away. I didn't even know they existed so I'm glad we found it.

It was fun. I guess there were a lot fewer people there than normal, only two other moms and babies. A 6 month boy who is already crawling and a 7 month girl.
We sang songs, climbed up an incline, played peek-a-boo, played soccer, and played with the parachute!

She didn't want to nap this morning so she fell asleep in the car on the way there and I had to wake her up to go inside. It took her a while to warm up to the whole experience but by the end she was laughing and really enjoying herself.

I signed us up. The teacher made us an offer I couldn't refuse. She waived the initiation fee and the coupon gave us $20 off the first month's classes.

Her age level has 3 meeting times a week. So we could go three times a week if we wanted plus to the open gym times.

Here she is after we got home, she's still wearing her name tag.

Outside!

It's been very nice out this weekend so we've spent a lot of time outside. Yesterday we went for a long walk. JR carried Kaida in the pack. Normally he doesn't like to walk with me 'cause I don't walk fast enough for him to get a work out. But he has to work a lot harder when he's carrying 15 extra pounds on his back.

And today she played in the swing. She really liked it!

And then JR set up his hammock and they hung out in there for a little while before bath time.

It's Toothy Time!

We can feel a little bit of a tooth coming in. It's the front bottom on her right hand side. It's sharp but we can't really see it yet. Mostly because she won't let us look. Her tongue always comes out and covers it up.

Now, the many silly faces of Kaida.

Kaida Time!

It's funny 'cause she liked the blueberry applesauce the day before.

Apparently she's not a fan anymore. I especially like how she goes in after it with her hand to get it out. 'Cause just spitting it out at me might not be effective enough.

Oh my Daddy, what big feet you have!

Looking pretty grown up today.

And cute!

Very cute!

Crib Time

We lowered the crib this weekend. It's like she's sleeping on the floor now it's so low.

I can't lean in to kiss her goodnight anymore so I have to juggle her a little to kiss her before I lay her down. The likelihood that I'll get headbutted in the face is pretty strong now but that's been the only issue. Well, that and her pacifier is gone. It's probably behind the crib but the crib skirt is in the way (since it hangs lower now) so I can't see it. I was planning to stop giving it to her anyway. She never uses it except to chew on it and play with it. she doesn't seem to miss it at all, so that's good. I took the pacifier that's been on her car seat off too. I put a toy in its place. I think it's the same difference to her.

This morning she woke up at 5. That's not very odd, a little early but I like that 'cause then I can feed her and put her back down and she'll usually sleep a little later than normal, like 8 or 9.
I fed her and everything seemed fine but 25 minutes after I put her back to bed she woke up. I tried just calming her and then laying her back down but she wasn't a fan of that idea. The next time I went in I rocked her and she fell asleep in my arms. She didn't wake up again until the roofers were already on the roof.
I've never actually rocked her to sleep before. I was surprised that it worked.

My Famous Baby

Ok, maybe famous is stretching it a bit.

Kaida's picture is on Redford's website.

Click this link http://www.redfordphotography.com/index2b.php

Then hover over Family and Children Galleries and click on Newborn to 12 month olds.

She's the 5th baby down.
Definitely in the right hand column. But I'm that bad mommy who can't tell if that's a picture of her in the left hand column too or someone else's baby.
So, pictures 9 and 10.

There were several that didn't look like her at all when we went to pick our favorite so I guess I'm not surprised that I can't tell.

But look! My Baby!

7.5 months

Dear Kaida,

Today you're about seven and a half months old. Right now you're asleep upstairs in the Nursery. After dinner we gave you your bath in the kitchen sink, I nursed you, and then we read Goodnight Moon before I put you to bed.
You're getting a little too big for the kitchen counter and you keep grabbing at everything. Daddy moved the toaster so instead you grabbed for the outlet. We're thinking about starting to give you your baths in the tub.

Now that you're older you can sit up, roll over, stand while holding onto something, and feed yourself some finger foods. You've been trying to pull up to standing from a sitting position but so far you've only gotten to your knees. The other day I put you in your crib sitting up and when I came back into the room you were on your knees holding onto the crib rail. So it's probably time to lower the mattress in your crib.

You're still a little baby, tall but thin. And your parts are little too. If I see other babies your age I'm surprised by how big their hands are compared to yours.
Your hair is getting a lot thicker and some of it is so long I don't quite know what to do with it. It seems silly to go for a hair cut when they'll only be cutting 20 or 30 strands.
This weekend I'll switch out your wardrobe to the 6-9 month clothes since you're getting too long for most of the 3-6 month clothes.
And, of course, you're still beautiful. In fact you're a model! We had your picture taken at Redford Photography so they can use your picture for advertising.

You're eating 2 meals of solid foods. We mostly give you baby food and some finger foods. Pretty soon we'll start zipping up some regular food in the food processor so you can try lots of different things. But for right now you have a very strong preference for foods that are orange. In fact you eat so much orange and so little of everything else that you even poop orange.
You usually nurse about 4 or 5 times a day. What used to take you an hour when you were first born now takes about 10 minutes.

You usually sleep from 8pm to about 7 or 7:30 am. Sometimes you wake up overnight but all I have to do is feed you and you go back to sleep. If you wake up a little early I can put you back down and you'll sleep for another hour. Yay! You take a morning nap, an afternoon nap, and then usually a nap in the car when we go to pick up Daddy at the Park'n'ride. Sometimes if your naps are a little short we end up throwing an extra nap in there. But we usually follow a schedule of back to sleep 2 hours after you wake up.

You still really like the kitties and Tonic really likes you but sometimes, when you scream really loud or hit him, he doesn't want to be around you anymore. You love your table with the phone, computer, book, and piano on it. You are very proud of yourself when you make it play a song and when you use it to pull yourself up to your knees.
You smile at me everytime I zip you into your sleep sack. We're not sure but we think you like the sound the zipper makes.
But your favorite toy right now is the frog that ribbits when you pull on him. You giggle at him every time you play with him.
You love to watch people and especially other kids play. You're starting to get more involved though. This week you and Addy both played with the gumball machine toy while we were at Aunt Jen's house.

I have been having a lot of fun staying home with you and I'm very excited to see how much you'll change and learn in the next few months.

I love you,
Mommy
