6 Month Doctor Visit

Kaida had her 6 month well visit today.

She
weighs 13 pounds 13.5 ounces - 25th percentile
Was 26.5 inches long - 75th percentile
And her head is 43 cm - 75th percentile

Dr. Kovach thinks her height measurement last time was off since this percentile is more in line with her two month measurements.

He also thought she was sitting up very well. He said if people saw her sitting up they would think she was nine months, not six. I'm not sure about that one.

And he kept asking, actually, assuming that we make our own baby food. I guess breastfeeding and cloth diapering are gateways to making your own baby food? I see them more as ways to save money though. I wonder if making your own baby food saves a lot of money. I doubt it's cheaper than free though, since Jen gave us all sorts of baby food Addy didn't finish I haven't had to buy much of anything yet.

She had some more shots and the last of the oral vaccine today. She's done just fine but got a little crabby after her late nap. I think she just wasn't feeling well. But she was happy for her bath and went to sleep a little early. Hopefully happy Kaida will be back tomorrow.

Overall Dr. Kovach thinks she's just fine and I agree.

Over the River and Through the Woods

Our trip to Evansville was fun. We went to the zoo on Saturday and went for a walk around the neighborhood on Sunday.
Monday we started driving home but the weather got really crappy once we got past Columbus. I'm not a fan of winding up in a ditch at any point, I imagine it would be even less fun with a baby, so we pulled off and found a hotel for the night. We made it back just in time for her doctor's appointment this morning.

Kaida is pretty funny when we go outside. She's so used to being all snuggled up in her car seat when we go out that she's not used to any weather. But it was warm here last week and warm while we were in Evansville too so there were a couple times that we went outside without the car seat.
When the wind blows in her face she starts gulping and gasping for air. She's quite the drama queen. It's pretty hilarious.

On her six month birthday she just up an decided that she likes eating and she's going to eat a whole bunch. She ate all sorts of squash and all of her cereal on Saturday. Then on Sunday she ate a ton of peas and cereal again. Today she had the entire jar of peas and at least twice what I've been giving her for cereal normally. Today I fed her before I nursed her so she was super hungry. She tried to speed things along by leaning way forward and shoving her face at the spoon. It was pretty messy.

I like this eating thing!

Evansville Zoo

We went to the zoo in Evansville yesterday with Grandmom, Pop Pop, Aunt Jen, Addy, Aunt Jamie, and Melanie. JR and I had fun. I can't speak for Kaida except to say that she seemed interested and she didn't cry.

It's smaller than the Pittsburgh zoo which is to be expected, since Evansville is a smaller city. We were pretty amused because they must have shuffled some of the animals around but not changed the signs. We kept seeing signs for Muntjacs but then there would be a camel or a crane in the habitat. Or the one where the sign said siberian tiger but actually had muntjacs in it (that was just because the sign was in a bad place, we found the tiger a little ways over).

My favorite was the Hippo-not-amus. I said "I'd like to see the hippos and rhinos." So we wandered over into their area. They must have been in their houses so JR said "Look! It's the incredibly rare Hippo-not-amus." I thought that was hilarious.

It was Kaida's first trip to the zoo. she watched some of the animals, the ones that moved enough to catch her attention. Then she got sleepy and napped for a little while.

She really liked the birds in the botanic garden area. I think she had the most fun watching her cousins, aunts, and Grandmom and Pop Pop though.

Snoozing at the zoo.

Redford

Today Kaida had her photo taken at Redford Photography.

JR went to High School with their son and they're facebook friends now. They posted that they're looking for baby models ages 2 weeks to 6 months so we said Sure! Why not?

I mean, the kid is gorgeous. We may as well take advantage of it while it lasts. The session was free and we'll get an 8x10 for free too (thank goodness, they're super expensive).

I don't know if they'll use her pictures at all or if they do where they'll put them. I would assume the website and maybe their print ads. They also have a wall at the mall (or they did the last time I was down there) so who knows, she could be that adorable famous baby at the mall.

They got a lot of really cute pictures, you can tell when they're going to be good even before you see them. They were fantastic at keeping her attention and getting her to smile.

I'm sure it's going to be hard to choose just one for our 8x10.

Taking a nap on Daddy. I'm not sure where her pants went.

Playing with the Baby Doll Grandmom and Pop Pop got her.

Meeting Bandit, the biggest Kitty in the WORLD!

Playing all by herself in her room.

6 months or 16?

I'm starting to not believe this whole "wah-wah I'm a baby" thing.

Today, as I watched on the nursery camera, she reached up next to her ear, grabbed her pacifier, and started gnawing on it. She couldn't see the pacifier so it surprised me that she knew where it was.

Earlier, while I was feeding her she reached for the towel I keep on the high chair for bigger spills and wiped her face. At first it was just because she wanted to test it out with her mouth but then she stopped opening her mouth and seemed to really be wiping her face with it.

And a little later I stood her up next to her rocker so she could play with the toys that hang on the bar. She just stood there by herself for a minute without me even helping her balance.

So the whole "I can't roll over from my back to my front by myself" thing seems like an act when she's doing all these other crazy grown up things.

Silly baby.

Fun Times

Kaida loves playing with people who aren't me!

When we went to have her picture taken with Melanie and Addison she just, out of the blue, started making noise. I think there was so much going on that she just wanted to join in.

When she plays with JR she gets very talkative.

And we went to see Aunt Jen and Addy this week and she was talking there too. She hardly ever talks to me so I'm starting to get pretty jealous.

She also practiced standing holding onto a toy. We don't have any standing toys here so that was new and exciting. We may need to take a look around and find something fun for her to play with.

Cereal

Kaida started cereal yesterday. The directions say, for baby's first feeding mix 1 Tbsp of cereal with 4-5 Tbsp of breast milk or formula. That is waaaaay too much.
Today I did 1/2 Tbsp of cereal. Tomorrow I might do 1/4 Tbsp of cereal.
Today the dish started out as 6.5 ounces total weight. When she had enough of this eating thing I weighed it again. It was .4 ounces lighter. I would say maybe half ended up on her bib. So it seems like she ate about .2 ounces.

She seemed to get it a little better today. She makes this face like "Good God what are you putting in my mouth? This is terrible!" and then she mushes it around with her tongue a little. Some goes out the front and some goes down the hatch.

JR was here yesterday for her first feeding. He said "She probably wonders why we're feeding her puke." It does look a lot like puke. Maybe a little chunkier.
